we are finally getting started!
We called probably dozens of civil engineering firms, and trying to get a civil engineer out to the venue to look at our bridge span, and get it all drawn up was like pulling teeth. We had company over Christmas time, friends of ours that live in Virginia. They’ve been doing concrete work for decades. What I didn’t know, is that my friend’s dad built bridges for a living all over the east coast. The man had some huge contracts with state government, federal government, and private stuff. This girl has been my best friend for 35 years and I didn’t know that. I knew the guy did Concrete work but, wow!
an idea is born
After showing our friends Bob and Shauna the destruction from Helene, Bob said, “we can build you a new bridge.” And then he said that his father-in-law would probably be very excited to come down and help. In Bob’s words, “You have the Yoda of bridge building coming to work.”
Bob wrote out an estimate, figured out what we would need, did the engineering calculations, and went back to Virginia with a promise that they would be back soon.
We scheduled the work for the end of January.
Footings and Embuttments are In!
bob and his father-in-law Chuck traveled down from Virginia to do the concrete work. Chuck went home after a week, but Bob is here for another two weeks finishing up retaining walls, decking, etc. But below our pictures of how the project is coming along.

keep following along as we add more photos and updates to the construction!
