Why We Don’t Allow Sparklers for Sendoffs at Our Outdoor Venue

At The Venue at Ballenger Bridge, we’re committed to creating a magical and safe environment for your wedding day. While we understand the allure of a sparkler sendoff, we’ve made the decision not to allow sparklers for a few important reasons. Here’s why:

1. Safety First: Preventing Accidents and Injuries

Sparklers, while beautiful, are essentially handheld fireworks. They can burn at temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which is hot enough to melt metal. This presents a significant risk, especially when guests are in close proximity to one another, often in formal attire that can be highly flammable. The last thing we want is for your celebration to be marred by an injury or accident.

2. Protecting Our Natural Surroundings

Our venue is surrounded by beautiful natural elements, including a historic covered bridge and a serene river. The area around the venue, particularly in the summer and early fall, can be dry and susceptible to fires. A single stray spark from a sparkler could easily ignite dry grass, leaves, or other vegetation, leading to a fire that could cause significant damage to the property and potentially endanger lives.

3. Preserving the Venue for Future Celebrations

Sparklers can leave behind residue, such as burnt wires and ash, which can be difficult to clean up and may cause damage to the venue’s surfaces. This can affect not only your event but also future events hosted at our venue. We strive to keep our property in pristine condition for every couple that chooses to celebrate their special day with us, and eliminating the use of sparklers helps us maintain this standard.

4. Avoiding Smoke and Odors

While sparklers create a pretty effect, they also produce smoke and a distinctive odor that can linger in the air. This can be unpleasant for your guests, particularly those with asthma or other respiratory conditions. Additionally, the smell can cling to clothing and hair, which is not ideal when everyone is dressed up and ready for photos.

5. Considering Other Guests and Neighbors

Our venue is designed to be a peaceful, serene location, and we have neighbors and wildlife that share the surrounding environment. A sparkler sendoff can create noise and light pollution that disrupts this tranquility. We want to respect our neighbors and the local wildlife, ensuring that your celebration is enjoyable for everyone, both on and off the property.

6. Offering Safe and Beautiful Alternatives

Just because we don’t allow sparklers doesn’t mean you have to miss out on a stunning sendoff. There are plenty of safe and beautiful alternatives that can create the same magical effect without the risks. Consider options like:

LED sparklers or glow sticks: These provide a similar look without the fire hazard.

Bubbles: A whimsical and photogenic option, perfect for outdoor sendoffs.

Biodegradable flower petals: These can add a festive flair and are eco-friendly. No rose petals.

Ribbon wands: These create a lovely, elegant effect and can be customized to match your wedding colors.

7. Our Commitment to Your Special Day

At The Venue at Ballenger Bridge, your safety and the preservation of our venue are our top priorities. While sparklers might seem like a small detail, the risks they pose are significant. By choosing a safer alternative, you’ll not only protect your guests and our property, but you’ll also contribute to making your wedding day a beautiful, worry-free experience for everyone involved.

We’re here to help you create a memorable sendoff that’s just as magical—without the risks associated with sparklers. If you have any questions or need help choosing the perfect alternative, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. We’re excited to help you plan the wedding of your dreams!
